State Medical Research Center Oncology named after N. Petrov (Saint-Petersburg)

SMRC named after N. Petrov is one of the largest medical research centers in Russia, specializing in therapeutic and diagnostic activities in oncology. The staff of the center is more than 1000 employees, among which leading experts of domestic oncology: corresponding members of RAS, professors, doctors and candidates of medical sciences, doctors of the highest medical category.

The main goals of the center are comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases (complex treatment of malignant tumors) for kids and adults. Due to constantly expanding scientific base and modern technological equipment, SMRC named after N. Petrov all the time improving the methods of diagnostics and treatment of oncological pathologies

In addition to publicistic, public and educational activities (postgraduate educational problems), the center is engaged in scientific researches, experimental development, aimed at expanding the capabilities of domestic medicine in the oncology area.

The Center’s researches focus on improving diagnostic methods to reduce mortality and achievement of dynamic supervision over the group of ”cancer risk”. Employees of the center are dealing with the regular introduction of high-tech methods of diagnostics and treatment of malignant tumors. The clinic is developing on the improvement of oncology treatment by identifying factors affecting the development of neoplasms.

In the center both outpatient and inpatient treatments are possible. The clinic is designed for 405 places and annually receives more than 13 thousand patients from Russia and CIS.

Following methods are being used:

  • Conformal Radiational Therapy (3D);
  • Stereotactic Radiation Therapy;
  • High-dose and low-dose brachytherapy;
  • Vaccine therapy with dendritic cells.
